Our Work
Sandhills Guardian Foundation works directly with the local Guardian Ad Litem program and Department of Social Services to understand specific needs of foster children and their caregivers. A few of our projects are below but we also tailor support and resources based on individual and family needs. Needs can include new appliances for struggling foster families, monetary support for educational and athletic opportunities outside of basic resources and much more!
Packages for Children Entering Foster Care
Children entering foster care often due so with little to no notice, and with not much more than a trash bag of clothing. Sandhills Guardian Foundation provides funding to pay for shipping of duffle bags for foster children entering the system. To date we have ordered 50 cases for Moore County children. The bags include hygiene items, comfort items and a duffle bag for children ages infant to 17 who are entering the foster care system. We order the cases through another nonprofit who provides support around the nation for foster children.
Youth Sports Opportunities
The Sandhills Guardian Foundation believes strongly in the value of building resilience and community through physical activity and organized sports programs. Sandhills Guardian Foundation works to provide needed admission fees, sports equipment and clothing to foster children. Swim lessons are also a specific focus as the lessons provide a much needed life skill to children who might not otherwise have the opportunity to learn.
School Supply Drive
Whether through supply donation boxes or monetary donations, the Sandhills Guardian Foundation works to make sure foster children feel confident and loved with the right tools to thrive as they enter the new school year.
Other Projects
The Sandhills Guardian Foundation works through the local Guardian Ad Litem program and Department of Social Services to identify and fulfill unique needs for foster children and other children in need. This includes:
